Frank Farr
Up Frank's Gear

Frank Farr
plays the drums on Guitaria.   Frank and I go all the way back to my college days.  When I started at Georgia Southern University, I worked for Radio Shack.  Frank came in to the store one day and we discovered our common interest in music.  He had also seen, and liked, my older brother’s band, "Kudzu".  We quickly became best of friends and put together a band for playing on weekends.  Meanwhile…my older brother’s group, Kudzu, played a concert with Frank Zappa in
Atlanta.  A few months later Tom Fowler, Zappa’s bass player, broke his hand playing football.  Zappa remembered my brother, Bird, and flew to Atlanta and hired him.   Bird recorded some with Zappa and is on Lather, Sleep Dirt, and One Size Fits All.  When Bird left Zappa’s group and came back to Atlanta, he asked me if I was interested in playing in a group with him.  I still had a year left to finish college and figured I had made it this far and knew I should finish what I had started.  I recommended Frank Farr to Bird to be his drummer.   Frank moved on up to Atlanta and joined the band.  I finished school but would go play with the group on weekends, holidays, and between quarters.  After completing school I moved to Atlanta and became a full time member of the group too.  So, Frank and I wound up touring around the southeast together.  Frank eventually left to go with another group and I fell in love and decided to leave the band and get married.  It was not unusual to be gone from home for four to eight week stretches and I knew a marriage would be hard to keep together under those conditions.  Frank and I have managed to keep in touch through the years though.  We currently live about an hour apart.  Frank called me one night to get my opinion of what software to use for recording on his computer.  During the conversation I mentioned my ‘Guitaria’ project.  Frank jumped in and took care of the percussion end of the project for me.    I don’t know of anyone I would rather have playing drums on this CD than Frank!!!  Thanks Frank!
